Matt 15:3-5

And why do you, by your traditions, violate the direct commandments of God? 4For instance, God says, ‘Honor your father and mother,’* and ‘Anyone who speaks disrespectfully of father or mother must be put to death.’* 5 But you say it is all right for people to say to their parents, ‘Sorry, I can’t help you. For I have vowed to give to God what I would have given to you.’

This statement of Jesus to the teachers of religious law looks to mean that it is very right to offer an amount you planned offering to the Lord to a needy person. A lot of times when we were discussing ‘Tithing’, this particular question pops up, and it’s as if the answers given were not satisfactory enough to the askers, because this question looks to have been repeating itself under the guise of different coverings, and the question is simply, “on your way to offer one tenth of your profit, you met a destitute woman who happened to have asked you for some money. Is it right to offer your tithe to this woman and consider that you paid you tithe?”
