What are the traits you exhibit when you have the Holy Spirit in you?

A Christian does not only profess the presence of the Holy Spirit in him with his mouth, but he lives to show evidence of this presence of the Holy Spirit. Acts 1:8 says that the filling of the Holy Spirit will give power to witness in your own town (Jerusalem), your neighbouring towns and nations (Judea and Samaria), and the whole world (the ends of the earth). That is to say, the Holy Spirit in you desires to speak to others about the saving Grace of God, and you being the vessel of the Holy Spirit will without fear walk the desires of the Holy Spirit in you.

Secondly, the Holy Spirit manifests Himself in us by the tongue speaking act. Like Acts 2:4 says, “All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.” Reading further, we have been made to understand that this way the Holy Spirit manifests Himself in us makes unbelievers to tag us drunk, and filled with too much wine. – Acts 2:13.

The Christian could perfectly be described as a tree, and with the presence of the Holy Spirit this tree begins to bear fruits which Galatians 5:22 says and I quote, “But the fruits of the Holy Spirit is love, Joy, Peace, Forbearance, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control.

The manifestation of the Holy Spirit is a complete package, not one or two of all, but all of all. You cannot have the Holy Spirit in you and be enabled to only speak in tongues. One must as well have the power to evangelize/witness, and bear the fruits of the Holy Spirit.

In summary

The Holy Spirit thereby identifies you as a believer – Ephesians 1:13 (When you believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit) – and once you are identified, the Holy Spirit manifests Himself in you by:

  • Empowering you to evangelize/witness (Acts 1:8)
  • Enabling you to speak in tongue (Acts 2:4)
  • Making the fruits of the Holy Spirit your outward and inward traits in public and in secret (Galatians 5:22)

Matthew 1:18 – 2:6

Today being the first day of December, the month the savior of the world was born, the month of love, the month God opened Heaven unto Earth and poured down His Love everlasting on mankind, I want us all to have some expectation. The kind of expectation that will keep us anew in Him, that will draw us closer to Him than ever before.

You know, when Joseph had discovered that Mary was pregnant without him knowing her, he had decided to divorce her secretly to avoid public disgrace. But then the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream when he was considering to divorce Mary, he (Angel) said to him (Joseph), “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” -which means, “God with us.”

Very soon, Jesus is coming, and He will come to:

  • Cleanse our sins – Matthew 1:21
  • Give us the presence of God (Immanuel) – Matthew 1:23
  • Lord over our lives (King of the world) – Matthew 2:2,6
  • Lead us and be our shepherd – Matthew 2:6

If for some reason you have no expectation, and do not wish to have an expectation for this Christmas, I want to encourage you to firmly grasp the purpose for which we celebrate this day, and season, and invite Jesus into your life, home and career. And let your expectation be like that of the wise men who embarked on that long and seemingly cul-de-sac journey to go and bow before Him (Jesus) in worship.

Merry Christmas in advance.

Acts 1:8

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Our Lord Jesus Christ was taken up to Heaven before the very eyes of His disciples and loved ones. Prior to that, He gave not too long a speech full of assurance and instructions (command) to the whole Christendom through the handful that witnessed His ascension.

And He assured them that He was going to send them a comforter, a supporter, and prime of all the power for the work He was leaving them to continue. Lo and behold, on the day of Pentecost the Helper (Holy Spirit) showed up in the midst of the believers when they were together praying, and they were empowered like Jesus promised and three thousand (3000) more people were added to them.

After the words of assurance, came the instruction to go across the length and breadth of the entire globe to spread the Good News. This command happens to be the last words Jesus spoke to His disciples. As a believer I have taken this command personal and I want to entreat you today to do same and help spread the word, “Jesus is the savior of the world.”

Jesus_Ascension-04I believe not all of us, believers, will have the calling, task, privilege, and the chance to travel from Nation to Nation with the Gospel, but the mere presence of the Holy Spirit in us, and His desires, grant us the enablement and the power to carry and spread the Word as we commute daily.

How ashamed I felt having realized the number of people I sat with each and every day as I traveled in and out of home to work without saying, “Our Lord Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven.”, and all that I engaged in was go through all that bunch of unnecessary ‘WhatsApp’ messages, might be completely lost. At least four different people on my way in and out of work daily. Estimating this number for five days in a week for a month informs me that I have bypassed a crowd of at least eighty (80) without telling them of my faith in Christ and its saving capability. I have been a very selfish Christian.

Not only have I passed by this crowd without telling them who I was and am, I have not followed Jesus’ instruction to tell the whole world, both far and near, about Him and the message He came to preach. I want to believe I am the only culprit of this ignorance. I could evangelize on social media and it is alright but, one on one evangelism makes the message as real as it is very real to the hearer.

And let me tell you how bad this is. On two different occasions have two of my close pals recounted to me how they have been robbed of their valuables in a ‘Trotro’ by the passengers that sat next to them. Lest I forget to tell you that your, ‘Hello’, ‘Hi’, ‘Bro, sis Jesus loves you and He died like a thief for you to be saved forever. You only need to believe and take Him your savior, and ladder to Heaven.’, will go a long way to save a fellow passenger’s soul and consequently save your valuables.

The first disciples and Christians were not only people who did good and taught others to be good and kind to their neighbours. They had a message, and no matter what difficulties were put in their way they proclaimed it. This same message lies before us today, lets heed to the words of Jesus before he ascended into heaven and proclaim it too.

Lord make me brave to speak the truth at all times. Amen.

Galatians 5:22,23

“What a friend we have in Jesus…” we always sing with joy and excitement. But, have we realized what we are saying to the world by singing that song? All who have seen us, Christians, should see Jesus Christ because we have the Holy Spirit, the spirit of Christ, in us. We are the embodiment of the character of Christ.

The character of Christ is in the Fruits of the Holy Spirit and those fruits are LOVE, PEACE, JOY, HAPPINESS, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, FAITHFULNESS, PATIENCE, LONG SUFFERING, SELF CONTROL, GENTLENESS, – Galatians 5:22,23. But rather unfortunate, we are boastful, proud, sexually immoral, gluttons, impatient, jealous, quick to anger, lustful, sad, hopeless, not trustworthy, liars, cheaters, slanderers, gossips, and all the traits of the enemy, satan.

Inasmuch as Christ wants to speak to the world through our songs, testimonies, circumstances, and more especially our lives and ways, the world is also eager to see the character of our Lord Jesus Christ in us everyday.

Let us endeavour to with boldness show the world Christ, our friend, for the world to show us our character by virtue of the friendship we have with Him. Help us Lord. Amen!

(MATTHEW 21:21-22)
21 Then Jesus told them, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and don’t doubt, you can do things like this and much more. You can even say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. 22 You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.”
The answer to the title of the post is “Nothing

Dedicating your life and ways to the Lord comes with myriad of benefits. One of which is Him talking to you at any point in time He deems necessary – not only in your need. What a privilege and an honour!
When Eli realized it was the Lord who was calling Samuel, he (Eli) told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if He calls you, say, ‘Speak Lord, for your servant is listening’.” I honestly do not know how one can serve a master to the master’s desire and satisfaction without being attentive to his calls and paying heed with all willingness and enthusiasm, at all times.

The Christian journey is one of volition/ choice and the confirmation of it lies in the instruction Christ gave His disciples before He was taken up to Heaven, “Go into the world and preach the gospel, and if any man believes…” The choice to believe the message of Grace that has been laid at your doorstep is solely yours.

Being a Christian is all about service to the Lord and His creation (mankind), and to serve means listening with rapt attention and delivering to perfection what has been assigned you. I am standing on Samuel 3:9 to charge you to tune in your inner man to the Holy Spirit at all times so that your reply to the Lord without any assistance from any human will be, “Speak Lord, your servant is listening.”  Only through this way you will know the mind of God concerning your ordained purpose and the journeys you are taking for the Lord.

Stay blessed, and remember there is nothing greater than the love of God for you.

Scriptural reference: Daniel 6:1-28
6:1} It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an

hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the

whole kingdom; {6:2} And over these three presidents; of

whom Daniel [was] first: that the princes might give

accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.

{6:3} Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents

and princes, because an excellent spirit [was] in him; and

the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

{6:4} Then the presidents and princes sought to find

occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they

could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he [was]

faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.

{6:5} Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion

against this Daniel, except we find [it] against him

concerning the law of his God. {6:6} Then these presidents

and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus

unto him, King Darius, live for ever. {6:7} All the

presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes,

the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to

establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that

whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty

days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of

lions. {6:8} Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the

writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the

Medes and Persians, which altereth not. {6:9}Wherefore

king Darius signed the writing and the decree.

{6:10} Now when Daniel knew that the writing was

signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open

in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees

three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his

God, as he did aforetime. {6:11} Then these men

assembled, and found Daniel praying and making

supplication before his God. {6:12} Then they came near,

and spake before the king concerning the king’s decree;

Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask

[a petition] of any God or man within thirty days, save of

thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king

answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of

the Medes and Persians, which altereth not. {6:13} Then

answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which

[is] of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not

thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but

maketh his petition three times a day. {6:14}Then the king,

when he heard [these] words, was sore displeased with

himself, and set [his] heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he

laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.

{6:15} Then these men assembled unto the king, and said

unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and

Persians [is,] That no decree nor statute which the king

establisheth may be changed. {6:16} Then the king

commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast [him] into

the den of lions. [Now] the king spake and said unto Daniel,

Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver

thee. {6:17} And a stone was brought and laid upon the

mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet,

and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not

be changed concerning Daniel.

{6:18} Then the king went to his palace, and passed the

night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought

before him: and his sleep went from him. {6:19}Then the

king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto

the den of lions. {6:20} And when he came to the den, he

cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: [and] the king

spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living

God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to

deliver thee from the lions? {6:21} Then said Daniel unto

the king, O king, live for ever. {6:22} My God hath sent his

angel, and hath shut the lions mouths, that they have not

hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in

me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.

{6:23} Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and

commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den.

So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of

hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.

{6:24} And the king commanded, and they brought those

men which had accused Daniel, and they cast [them] into

the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and

the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones

in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.

{6:25} Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations,

and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be

multiplied unto you. {6:26} I make a decree, That in every

dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the

God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for

ever, and his kingdom [that] which shall not be destroyed,

and his dominion [shall be even] unto the end. {6:27} He

delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders

in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the

power of the lions. {6:28} So this Daniel prospered in the

reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
What an amazing story! When Daniel was elevated to that feared and enviable position in the province of Babylon, because he had been able to interpret the dreams of King Nebuchadnezzar, he made a lot of known and unknown enemies.

Behind Daniel, his enemies plotted ways to kill him, but unknowing to them, it was a way they were going to make Daniel’s God glorify Himself through Daniel and be worshipped by all in Babylon. And when King Darius called out to Daniel in the Lions’ den, Daniel replied, “My God sent His angel, and he shut the mouth of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was innocent in His sight. Nor have I done any wrong before Him.” Then King Darius said this about the God of Daniel and you and I, “I decree that everyone throughout my kingdom should tremble with fear before the God of Daniel. For he is the living God, and he will endure forever. His kingdom will never be destroyed, and his rule will never end. He rescues and saves his people; he performs miraculous signs and wonders in the heavens and on earth. He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions.”

Don’t worry about the plots of your enemies against your life, because the God we serve who has been able to send his angel to protect Daniel in the lions’ den is poised to do more for you and I in our innocence , these days and ever more. Amen.
